IN IMPORTANT PUBLIC AFFAIRS. April next-promises to be, a record month with regard to the people's concern in public affairs. On the final Wednesdav in that month elections will bo held "in connection with the return of the Mayor, the City Council, the Harbour Board, and "Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Bonril (holding office for two years). In addition to these several elections the Government has promised to take a Dominion referendum durinl? As the. taking of (he poll for the local bodies is controlled by the City Council officials (with Mr. James Ames as Chief Returning Officer), and the referendum by (he Government, it lifts been suggested, in view of the heavy cost of elections and Hint the local bodies all over New Zealand are elected on the one day, that some arrangement might be made to take the. referendum on the same day as the local bodies' elections. I£ that could be arranged it would mean that nn enormous economy would be effected, mid there would be a liitrger poll on all ksuos than if they , were taken on different days. ' -
