SOLDIERS' CLUB
The committee of the Sydney Street bolcliers Club held its final meeting in the clubhouse yesterday morning, lu the absence of the president, Mrs. Jiassey (who has accompanied the Prime Minister to England); the chniv was taken by Mrs. AV. Nathan, and there wore also present Mrs. C. W. Earle (hon. secretary],, Mrs. Henry Hall (hon. treasurer), Lady btout, Ludy Gibbes, Mesdames Moorhouse, Coleridge, Kirkcaldie, L. BlundclJ, ChatHcld, and Pearson, and Misses Coates and Itothenberg: Mrs. Earle reported that as soon as it became necessary to establish temporary hospitals for epidemic sufferers the club had been placed at the disposal of the authorities. In this connection a very grateful letter of thanks was read from Dr. Watt, District Health Officer. 'I he principal business before the meeting wus to discuss the disposal nf the furniture, etc. Mrs. Marie reported tlint the billiard table bad been lent by Messrs. Alcock, and had been returned'to them. The piano was placed for safe keening with tlio Bristol Piano Company. The baths were lent by Mr. Burt, and the gas ealiphont by the Wellington Gas Company, and these will also be returned. Pictures and stationery are to be sent to the Soldiers' Club, anil tlie illinninatod addresses presented to the committee by various reinforcements will be sent to the home of tho president. The furniture and other effects wiil w sold by auction early in January, .at it date to be announced later. In this connection Mr. S. George Nathan has offered his services as auctioneer, mid his offer has been gratefully accepted. The committee unanimously decided that, after a]l expenses nro paid, r.iiy funds remaining in hand, including the proceeds of tho salo, shall lie handed to the Returned Soldiers' Club, whk'h had the misfortune to have its appeal for funds entirely upset by the epidemic. A letler was rend from the Otago and Southland Women's Patriotic Association expressing thanks for Dominion Press notice and also their willingness to assist the club at any time. Apologies for absence- ivero received from Mrs. CS. AV. Russell, Mrs. Joseph Joseph, and Mrs. Jacob Joseph. The club caases as from ])ereinb?r 31, and the stall' are to be given a month's salary in lieu of notice. Mrs. Coleridge, moved a vote of I hanks to all who hud helped in the work nf the club. They liad all boon most loyal and I helpful, biit there were so many that it was impossible to •jnme them. She specially mentioned the hon. librnrian, Miss Rothenborg. There will be a good deal of business to attend to in connection with tin , s.ilo, and the House Committee was appointed an executive for this purpose. The hon. treasurer, Mrs. 11. lire, sented various arcnuiiK which wore passed for payment. She reported n satisfactory (in;i"-i-il position. II;? details of which will ]>c published afler Hie sale.
