PEACE CELEBRATIONS

PROGRAMME TO BE ARRANGED.' Referring at the meeting of the City Council last evening to tho prospects of an early peace, the Mayor (Air. ~,T. P. Luke) said that he. had been waited upon by Air. John Baillie with an idea for a peace celebration programme. Air. Robert Parker had also called on him to offer, his services. He thought tho services of Air. Parker should be accepted in connection with the musical part of the programme in connection with the celebrations. He suggested that the council should leave the matter of arranging a draft programme to the Finance Committee with power to add to their number, with a view to devising a Ml and proper means of carrying oui the celebrations. By that means they could make a start to build up a fitting function for the important event. The proposal was agreed to.
