WAR PENSIONS
THE BILL TO DATE. Starting -with a modest £13,910 in the financial year 1915-16, New Zealand s War Pensions Bill passed the half-million mark last year, and reached a total or I .£"-12,585 during the first eight months ot this financial year. New Zealand has already paid out in pensions as a result of the'great war a sum 'or .£1,452,329, and the 25,813 pensions granted involve an annual liability of J81.ni.451.. Successive improvements in the penI sion scale, and the move serious cases 1 which had to be dealt with as the campaign progressed, resulted in the average pension rising from £i& in 1915-16, .£53 the following year, to W per annum | to-day. • ~. , ~ The whole financial position as at.Movemlier 30 is summarised as follow— Annual Liability.
