INTERPRETATION OF AN AWARD. \ decision of the Arbitration Court n,t Auckland affecting hotel and restaurant employees practically throughout the Dominion was yesterday notified to the Labour Department at Wellington. The Court of Arbitration at Auckland was asked by the Inspector of Awards for an interpretation of certain clauses in the Auckland Hotel and Restaurant Employees' Award. Clause 1 (a) of the award provides that the hours of work -.hall be regulated by the Shops ami Offices Act, 19118, and its amendments. Clause 16 provides that all workers covered bv the award shall be paid for overtime at the rate of time and a hall, the minimum rate of overtime io be paid to be Is. per hour. Clause 21 (a) lays it down that where board is not provided for a worker under the award, such worker shall be paid 15s. per. week in addition to the wages prescribed in the award; a.nd that where., lodging is not provided, the- worker shall be paid <s.
