A NARROW-ESCAPE
CHANNEL PILOT'S HAIR-lUISING EXPERIENCE. London, December 16. An extraordinary incident is related of a Channel pilot, who, on December 15 descended a sSip's fide in the 'darkness off Dungeness. He saw an object in the water, and stepped on it, thinking it was his boat, and was on the point of releasing; his hold of the ladder when the boat hailed him. . A search with, a lamp showed that the object was a large live mine.—Ans.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
