Final payments and acceptances for the Auckland Club's Cup fixture are duo by Friday next. At Trentham on Saturday morning a lot of fast work was done by candidates with engagements at'the holiday meetings. The Auckland Cup candidates, Meneianu and Rose Pink, were both sent over ten furlongs, and they greatly pleased their trainers by the manner in which they did their task's. After being jogged a~ round Menelaus started at the mile and a quarter post, and was later picked up by Cooing. The latter was no use to Aleuelaus, who got to the end of his journey in 2min. losec, with the last mile taking. lmin. tfisec. Menelaus finished well, and ' is evidently very fit. Mascot has not been pleasing her trainer of late, and was restricted to three-quarter paco work on the tan. The two-year-olds Solfanella and Idleness were sent over half a mile. The former was too good for the filly, Mid finished well ahead, the gallop taking Hose Pink and'Arihia jumped off together at the fen furlongs. The latter was allowed to make the pace, and Hose Pink covered a lot of extra ground. At the six furlongs Arihia was in trouble, and Sunburst and Trickery joined in. The two last-named kept the lead, but Hose Pink was not bustled over the last furlong. The full journey occupied 2mm. 17sec, with the last mile in lmm. pOsee. Roso Pink, who will probably be ridden by C. Brown in the Auckland Cup, appears to be as well as ever she was. . , Trentham Hose, moving a trifle snoit, . was extended for the first tune this . season. Her half-mile took 52sec. which, considering it was her first R allop, was satisfactory. She is to do the West Coast meetings and will be accompanied by Preface and Rumania. ' ' • Battle Song and Bonny Maid were sent a mile, which took lmin. 47sec. The former was in front, pulling hard, till the straight was reached, when the mare easily collared him. The Auckland Cup candidate appeared to be a trifle short behind. Battle. Song is to be ridden in the Manawatn Cup by C. Beid, and the same horseman will also do the nainb for C. Pritclmrd's stables. The chestnut mare Philomela surprised the- track watchers by defeating 80-Peep over six furlongs in lmin. 17sec . Active, looking bright and well, easily did four, furlongs in 51sec.
