KILLED BY A BAKER'S CART
_—* TRAGIC DEATH OF A CHILD. The adjourned* inquest into .the circmnstances attending the death of John William lc Comic, three years; of age,-who the result of injuries. 'revived through being knocked by a baker'scart in Adelaide Road on November 5, was concluded on .Saturday-before'; Mr; K. V. Franer, S.M. At tiio opening of the inquest some time ogn Begin ild Arthur Newton, the driver of a baker's cart for the Denham Automatic Bakeries, said Ji« was driving alo i?. Arlc-bmle Road close to the kerb on his'proper'side of the street, when three children ran out', from Douglas Street, as if chasing one another. They ran straight 'iut'oss the road, and although witness applied, tho brake he was unable to avoid the accident. Tho lad was knocked down, and a wheel of the cart passed over his chest. At tho continuation of the inquiry on Saturday George Durtenshaw, confectioner, 131, Adelaide Road, said he .saw three children coming out of Myrtle Crescent oh to Adelaide Road. .They .appear? cd to be playing "tag," and the deceased suddenly ran out on to the road. " The child was looking in the opposite.direction to that from which the cart was approaching.- Ho appeared to run into o wheel of the vehicle, fail underneath,, and the wheel passed over his) shoulder and neck. Iri his opinion the drivel' of the cart was not to blame in any way for the accident. The coroner found that death was due to an accident, and that no blame was attachable to the driver of the cart.
