HIDES AND TALLOW SALES

',' The. sales-of hides-and tallow were held yesterday by the various brokers. Messrs. DaJsety and Co. renort that they , offered a medium-sized catalogue. Prices for heavy ox hides and for superior lines of calfskins were on a par with those of : ' last sales' rates. Other hides declined from id. to Id. Tallow showed a declino of 3s. to 4s. per cwt. Messrs. Murray, Koborts and 00. oatalogued 800 hides and MO calfskins. The market was somewhat erratic. Medium •: and heavy ox hides showed a decline of : about 3d. per lb. All superior conditioned cow hides sold at par, and lieht ox, par : to ad. per lb. lower. Medium country i; hides and damaged lots were easier by ■j'jSd. to lid. per ib. the market was very depressed. Generally speaking, prices ruled jd. to Jd. lower tor hides, and Id. to 2d. for calfskins. There will be uo further sales until tho ■New Year. Messrs. Levin and Co.'s catalogue comprised 1700 hides and calfskins and a quantity of follow. Competition for hides vae restricted, and pricee were Irregular and easier all round. The tallow market was firm. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.. repoft that Dricos for tallow were lower by £3 to ~4 per ton. Inferior hides were not in good demand, and calfskins also were lower..
