THE PROPOSED CATHEDRAL

Srr—One hundred and fifty thousand pounds! Think of it!' Then think of Hie poor and the slums of Wellington awl imnshie -what the. ahove sum of money would do to improve their condition, or lrhnt it would do for those poor little orphans left, destitute through this awful epidemic. If our Saviour were on earth this minute, what dp you think Re would have to say? Would He he pleased to see an ornate building built supposedly to glorify Tlim and the poor, whom wo aro taught Christ loves, in tho condition wo find them at the present day? Would not our Saviour be-better pleased if such a 'nrgo sum of money were spent in helping those, needy ones? We know there are many who are greatly in need of hob. First let us have tho poor housed decently, educate them, and (rain them to be clean and help them to earn i\ decent living; then our conscienee would be dear, then our efforts to build nn elaborate and 'expensive building would be acceptable in His sight. If it is a question of finding work for returned soldiors,, why not start them on nulling down tho slums, not only of Wellington, but of all our large cities, and replacing those hovels with respectable houses ? There' would be no fear of tho men being nut of work for many a day to come.— I am, etc., IN HIS STEPS.
