PETROGRAD IN THE GRIP OF BOLSHEVISM BRITISH FLEET APPEARS ON THE SCENE Amsterdam, December 8. The Dutch Minister to Petrograd, who has returned, speaks freely of the terrible conditions in Russia, and appeals to the workers of nil nations against Bolshevik tendencies. The Minister cliai'acterised Bolshevism as the end of civilisation.- Translated, into practice, its principles aro high wages for no work, the taking of other people's property without punishment, and no taxation. The situation in Petrograd is one <f utter exhaustion, and he had never dreamt of such corruption and tyranny. The future, seems hopeless, and if Russia is left to herself she will he completely and utterly ruined. "The Times" Copenhagen correspondent states that the winter has 'been terribly gripping in Northern Russia. Petrograd is o. city,of death. Many have been driven insane by hunger, and thousands are dying of starvation. Hundreds of them daily are being thrown into common graves. The peasantry are without fuel, and are becoming short of food. The Bolsheviks, fearing the Allies' iwl rival, are re-endeavouring to exterminate tho bourgeoise. The dead include distinguished authors and commercial men. The German soldiers have left the Baltic provinces, which have earnestly appealed to the Allies for help.—Renter. DEFINITE STEPS TO QUELL THE BOLSHEVIKI BRITISH FLEET OFF REVAL. . London, December 8. The British Fleet has arrived off Reval for the landing of troops and quelling Bolshevik excesses.—Reuter. The Swedish Government has recalled its consular and diplomatic representatives in Russia, except two officials at the Legation', and also has withdrawn the privilege of dispatching and receiving couriers from Vorowsky, the Soviet Government's representative, because he abused the privilege by importing Bolshevist literature from Russia.
