OBSCURE SPARTACUS COUP A PITIFUL FAILURE. (Rec. December 9, 7.30 p.m.), London, December 8. The situation in Berlin. is not clear, but there are apparently two movements, firstly, tho Spartacusians' attempt to eeize'power, and, secondly, the movement by the soldiers against the Socialist extremists. Advices from Zurich state that the.Bolshevist coup d'etat in Berlin, planned by LiebkuecJit and the Spartacus group, failed pitifully. The Government's troop 3 used their weapons, especially their machine-gums, ruthlessly. Liebknecht's forces, Avho were also armed with mach-ine-gun's and bombs, were utterly routed nnd fled in disorder, abandoning a great number of killed and woanded. I The losses of the Government troops were slight. Liebknecht stated that he in-' tended to rally his forces, so possibly fighting will be resumsd—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter.
