Advice has been received in Chnstolmrch that Engineer-Commander Ernest B. Low, of the s.s. Wahine, has been awarded the D.S.O. He w horn in Nelson, being a son of the late Captain Low, harbourmaster. He served his time as an engineer in Wellington, ana afterwards went Home, returning to the Dominion as an engineer on the first trip here of the Arahura. He has served in tho Wahine since she was taken over by the Admiralty, rising to the position of engineer-commander. Ho was the only officer in the vessel to receive the decoration. Mr. J. Low, of Addington, is a brother of Commander Low. Dr. Adams (The Terrace) is recovering from an attack of influenza. Word has been received in Christchurch that Lieutenant W. S. Seed, who left New Zealaud about a year ago as dental officer in one of tho troopships, and until recently was dental officer in tho artillery camp at Ewshot, England, has now been promoted to the rank ofcaptain, and has been transferred to the Queen's Hospital, which was specially erected for the treatment of. soldiers suffering from jaw and facial wounds. Mr. John Farrell, who is to manage the J. C. Williamson Comedy Company, has arrived- in Wellington from Auckland. The company is scheduled to commence a tour of New Zealand in Wellington on\Boxing' Night, by which time it is hoped that steamer communication will be restored.

Mr. John Hendesson, of Ellice Avenue, Wellington, has been advised that his sou, Corporal James Henderson, who was a prisoner of war in Germany, arrived in Dover last Saturday week.

Mr. Sidney Stirling, of "The Thirteenth' Chair" Company, who voyaged from Auckland to Sydney by the Atua early in November, developed influenza in quarantine, and at latest advices was convalescent after a severe bout.

Advice has been received by the Base Records Office that lli/570a Corporal James Clu'ne, a discharged soldier, died at To Waikato Sanatorium, Cambridge. Deceased was 23 years of age and single, the next-of-kin being his father, Sir. James Clime, Hikuai.

Lieutenant 0. A. Friedlander, who arrived in the Dominion last week from India, and is spending a furlough in Ashburton with his parents, enlisted as a private in September, 1914, in tho British section of tho New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Ho served in tho First Field Company N.Z.E. throughout tho Gallipoli campaign, and afterwards went to France with the New Zealanders from Egypt. He was granted a commission in the Royal Engineers in 1916, and was with tho Tunnelling Company in Ypres till invalided in .1917. On discharge from hospital, he was sent to India and attached to the 3rd Sappers and Miners, and afterwards sent on military work to Southern Persia, from where he was invalided. He will return to England shortly.
