WELLINGTON PUBLISHING COMPANY, LIMITED
ANNUAL MEETING. • .The annual meeting of shareholders of 'the Wellington Publishing Company, Limited (The Dominion newspaper) was held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Mr. James Macintosh, chairman of directors, presiding. , The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. i A dividend at the ra,fc of 5 per cent, on the paid-up capital was declared. The-chairman, in commenting on the year's operations, drew attention to a . considerable increase in the company's business in all branches. As was inevitable, owing to the war, the cost of newspaper production had heavily in- - creased, paper alone accounting for n large extra expenditure. Reference was made to the visit of the managing director (Mr. C. W. Earle) to England and France at the invitation of the British Ministry of information. It had 'been hoped that Mr. Earle would have been present at the meeting. He was a passenger by the Makur'a, bu,t owing to quarantine restrictions he was unavoidably absent. A warm tribute was paid to the staff by the'chairman, and a resolution of hearty thanks was carried with acclamation for their loyal service in a particularly trying year. • A large' number of employees had left on active military service, and owing to the recent epidemic a heavy extra burden'' had been thrown on those remaining. Tho retiring directors, Sir Walter Buchanan and Mr. G. F. Johnston, were re-elected unopposed, and the auditors, Messrs. E. W. Hunt and D. E. Menzies, were reappointed.
