THE ARMISTICE NEWS
The Prime Minister's explanation regarding the holding bapk of the news of the signing of the armistice misses the main point. In his answer to Me. Witty's question in the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. Massey referred only to the official message received by, the GovernorGeneral. He said nothing _ whatever about interference with a Press message which in the ordinary course would have reached Wellington about 9 p.m. on Monday, \Novembor ll._ That message would have arrived in ample time for publication in the morning papers of November 12. By whoso authority was it held back, and for what reason? The blocking of the message cannot possibly bo justified on the ground of military necessity. The news was published in Australia on the Monday evening. Why did the Government take steps to prevent its publication here until the following day?
