We 'have all of us kuown since our int he "Westminster Gazette") in a curious littlo book-Mr. Cuy Cudagan Eothnrv's "Tho Power of Music and tho Healng\rf' (Kegan P.tl), Mr. Rothery seta out in it not only his own theories, but tho'C of students, and scientists, and nhilosophers, who have had anything to sav on the subject; and among them they hint at tho value of music in tho treatment of mental wise', tell us that "in bygone days of drastic measures a goodly number of surgeons were especially in favour of music being played during blood-letting and cupping operations, advocate singing not only for its value to tho chest and lungs, but as a treatment for jaundice, liver complaints, and indigestion, and declare that it improves the circulation, find improves the appetite, as well as the digestion. Evon such of its contents -as are not convincing aro entertaining, and I ehould like to read a review of it from tho 6trict medical point of view.
