TWO .FURTHER AMENDMENTS. In the Legislative Council yesterday Sir Francis Bell mentioned that ho would move tho' following amendments to the Licensing Amendment Bill: — "Owners of hop gardens, tho hops produced on which have been used 6olely for the purpose of the manufacture of alcoholic beer within tho period of two years preceding tho commencement of this Act, shall be entitled to claim and havo compensation only in respect of the depreciation of the value of tho freehold of the hop gardon. The Court of Compensation sho.ll take into consideration that hops may still bo grown for export." "Inasmuch as in claims for compensation against tho Crown in ordinary cases tho claimant and tho Crown is oacli entitled to appoint an assessor, Iho appointment of assessors shall be so made as in the opinion of tho Governor-General to ensure that tho views of the classes of claimant and the Crown .respectively shall be fairly represented on the Court."
