"Her outward loading is for Egypt. THE MAHARA AT SYDNEY. The local office of the S.S. and A. Lino has receivjd cabled advice that the liner Mahara arrived at Sydney on Friday from Port Said. It is probable that the vrstol will come on-to New Zealand ports. Captain. Kershaw, formerly in charge of the Matatua, is master of the Mahara. CASE OIL FROM AMERICA. It is reported that arrangements have been made for a number of sailing vessels to take the berth at S«n Francisco to load caße oil for New Zealand ports on behalf of tho Vacuum Oil Company. THE MAPOURIKA. The Union Company hoped to dispatch tho Mapourika for Picton arid Kojaon on Saturday, but could not do so.. as tho vessel was still short of four fircxen. Her departure had conseauently tp be postponed until noon to-day, when she will probably get away. . MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain R. A. Williamson, late of the Kahika. who has recovered from a severe attack of influenza, will take command of the Tarawera at Dunedin to-day. Captain G. H. Hopkins, who is in temporary command of the vessel, will come nshore for orders. Mr. A. J. Lockie, Lite chief officer of the steamer Stella, lias joiped the barque Antiope at Auckland as mate, temporarily. Mr. F. Wilson, has joined the Mararoa. at third officer. Mr. T. H. Bowling is now first officer on the Kini. Mr. W. Long, Becond officer on the Komnta, joined the Moana as third officer. ' The Lyttelton' boat to-Jay is the Monowai, which will leave here again on Wednesday, taking civilian passengers on both days. . Tho Waimea. is to sail to-day for Nelson and West Coast. To-day will be a busy day in port as a. good ndmber of ships-will be working. It iB likely that tho supply of labour will not meet the demand. After some delay the Kaiapbi has sailed from Wellington for Greymouth. Tho Remuera has arrived here to load for England. The ilofoia sailed yesterday afternoon for Sari Francisco, vja ports. The collier Koromjko arrived from Westport at, midnight on Saturday, and the Kamo is due from Greymouth this, afternoon. The extensive oyerhaul to the Pate.cna will he completed at the end of this week. Her movements are uncertain. Early this week the Karu ■sill- probably leave Nelson, where she has been detained for a week or two by. influenza affecting her officers and crew, for Greymouth to load for Wellington. The Press Association teleirram from London, published in Saturday's local papers referring to tho departure of tho Wanganui for Wellington, presumably concerns the harquentine of that name from San Francisco. She arrived thete on October 31 from Wanganui, from where sho sailed on August 21. . The Mokoia, which has been held up at Port Chalmers owing to the influenza epidemic, will be recommi'ssioned early this week. Her future movements have not yet been announced. The steamer Booral arrived at Sydney on November 19 from Liverpool with a general cargo. The U;;ion Company's Karori left San Francisco on November 12 for Sydney, via Honolulu and Suva. The ship John Ena will not visit Dunedin, as w.- originally intended. The vessel arrive, at Lyttelton some weeks ago from San Francisco with a cargj of case oil consigned to the Vacuum Oil Company. She discharged a part of her cargo and was ready to sail a fortnight for Dunedin to put out the balance when about half the members of her crew were attacked with influenza. Sho will discharge the remainder of her enrco there, after which she will nail for Melbourne," where sho will load for an American port.
Tho Union Company has agreed to carry out alterations resnecting the lavatory and bathing accommodation of the men on hoard their vessels, as requested by the National Executive of the Federated Seamen's Union. Up to tho present, requests for improvements have been made regarding the accommodation on the . Monowai, Moana. Kittawa, Mapourika. Kaianoi, Kamo. and Kanna. An inspection of vessels will also be made by the union at Auckland a.nd dunedin. The Anchor Oomoaiiy and other shipowners are also being approached with a view tp hnvinE the sanitary conditions on boarjd shin improved. The Waitomo left Auckland on Saturday afternoon for-Wellington. She is due here
to-morrow with cargo from Calcutta and Eastern ports.. Lyttelton and Dunedin are her next ports.
