WAIKAREMOANO HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER

Sir,— On February 22, 1012, Mr. E. Parry, Government Electrical Engineer, handed in a most favourable report on the suitability of AYaikaremoana us a source of 'hydro-electric power for the Kast Coast, to be linked up to Wellington. That is nearly seven years ago, and up to the present time the Minister of Public Works has had no time to give the matter the usunl Ministerial consideration. In the meantime Mr. Parry, who is a thoroughly competent electrical engineer, has become so depressed with the state of the Public Works Department in this country and its general goslow policy that he has decided to leave the Dominion in distrust. That is the sole reason for his departure. J, feel certain of this, because the last time I spoke to Mr. Parry he , was itching to get on with the salvation of the country and prove to the world that God's gifts to this Dominion a,re amongst the finest in Hie world, but the Afinister whs held the starting pistol just shut his eyes and funked it when the time arrived to pull the trigger and start Mr. Parry, a sure winner in the People's Salvation Race. Tt is over twenty years since the came kind of far-seeing Ministers had the East Coast railway surveyed, and they are still sitling in their cosy armchairs telline funny yarns instead of getting on with the railway. Is it any wander that Mr. Parry, knowing nil this, has decided to leave the country in preference to wasting the best years nf his life without a chance, of proving Irs worth and demonstrating to the world the value of hydroelectric power? Adieu. Sir. Parry, and may your .services be better appreciated in a land where there are workers at tho head of affairs and not talkers. In .Canada a railway line is euggested today, started to-morrow, and gone on with nt the rate nf 100 miles a year, and paya its way as it goes, and why not here?— I am, etc., NAT. BEAMISH. Hastings, November 25.
