An old colonist, Air. Robert Bain, of Clevedon, died at Auckland on Tuesday at the ago of SO. He was a native of Glasgow, and arrived in Auckland in 1853. From that dale he was. employed on the staff of the newspaper "Southern Cross" till 1865. when he forsook Hie city to engage in fanning at Clevedon, where he resided till-his death. Deceased's only surviving relative is Mrs. R. White, of 'Eltham.

At a meeting of the board of the Young Men's Christian Association last evening Mr. H. Kcrsley moved a vote of sympathy with the relatives of the.late Mr. W. C. Badden, who was n member of the board.

He was educated at private schools, and ialer became a pioneer settler,in Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa. In 1881 he married the eldest daughter of (lie late Jfr. H. S. Wardell. Mr. Beetham, who died iit.the residence of-his elder son, Mr. 'Ircvor Beelhani, after a. very short illness, has left a widow and two sons. The younger son. Mr. "Harold Beelhani, is .on active service.

Mr. R. P. Ward, clerk of the Magistrate's- Court at Wellington, has been appointed Registrar and Sheriff-, at the Supreme Court, Dunedin, and will probably leave about, the middle of December to lake up his new duties. Mr. O. ,1 Hewlett, who will take Mr. Ward's position at Wellington, was formerly,in the AVellington office, and was subsequently appointed clerk of the Court at Palme'r-ston North, and . about. twelve months ago was transferred to Invercaririll- to fill a similar position on account of Mr. A. Stubbs being promoted to Auckland to the vacancy made by Hie retirement of Mr. R, G. 'Ihoinas, who retired owing to ill-health.
