' Tho F. and S. liner Dorßet, vfhioU was diverted from Port Chalmers to Wellington, has now been ordered to Auckland, where she'should arrive on Monday from Sydney. The Monowai will arrive this morning from -Lyttelton, and is returning this afternoon with her accommodation filled with .soldiers. On Monday she will sail from Wellington 'with soldiers for Lyttelton and Dunedin. ' HINEMOA SAILS. A ftei- twelve days' delay the Hinemoa sailed at 2 p.m. yesterday for Akaroa and other South Island lighthouses. Tho difficulty of signing on a full crew was overcome by placing threo boys on deok work in.place of an ablo seaman, who was needed to reach the usual manning scale. The second lighthouse to be affected by the.'.epidemic, is Cape" Foulwind, where' the assistant-keeper is ailiiig. The other waa Manukau, and both are land houses. THE PICTON-NEILSON SERVIOE, RELIEF STEAMERS. The Mapourika is still unable to sail from Wellington for Picton and Nelson, owing -to being without a- complete crew. She will sail as soon as one ib made up. If the vessel docs not sail to-day or to-morrow Messrs. Levin and Co. will send their small.steamer'Wakatu to Picton tomorrow' morning. Over 70 passages will be. available, for booking if the trip is madr* Meanwhile the Anchor Line's Nelson boats, Kaitoa and Nikau, and Messrs, Levin and Col's Opawa, are relieving tho dislocation. The Opawa, which sailed yesterday for Blenheim, was a full ship (18 berths), and is fully booked for tomorrow's trip, and partly for that of Tuesday. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. ' Mr. Ernest Scldon Pike, who died at Palmerston North on Monday, was a wellknown murine engineer in the Government service. Formerly he was chief engineer of the Ifinemoa.the Tutanekai, and -the training Bhi.p Amokura. A year ago ho was appointed inspector of machinery at Palmerston North. Mr. Pike was vicepraident of tho MaTine Engineers' Institute during the president's absence at the front. Ho was.also president of the institute. Ho leaves a widow and three children.

Neil joined the Ngalnita as third engineer, '■ relieving Mr. Neville. Oaptins P. ,1. and A. T. Dowcll arc both suffering from influenza. Mr. J. J. Smitlv is now mate on the Kapuni, and Mr. G. Kelson is engineer. Mr. J. A. Moyes Ims joined the Knhiko, as engineer in place of Mr. i\ W. Armstrong. THE KUEOW FHOM )SAN FRANCISCO. The Union Company's cargo steamer Kurqw, which, arrived in the stream nt Wellington on Wednesday night from San Francisco, .via Papeete, berthed' at the Jervois Quay' Wharf at 10 oiclock yesterday morning:. 'The trip occupied' 50 days, during which time fine weather -was experienced. The vessel brings a. general cargo. There are no cases of sickness on board. The steamer was cleared by the Port Health Officer. The Kurow brought a, parcel mail only from America. Tlio Haddart-Parker liner Eiverina was originally timed to leave Sydney yesterday for Wellington, but the vessel will not make the trip. Thp local office of the. company advise that in consequence' of the epidemic the Rivorino, has been withdrawn from the intercolonial service in the meantime. To-day's projected departures includo the Wootton for Lyttelton at noon, and Mann for Wanganui. The Putiki is to sail to-day or to-mor-row for Tlmaru and Dunedin with a general cargo. The Kahu will sail to-day with oil for Napier, and the Kiritona on' Monday for Gisbornc. The cable Tepair steamer Iris put in to Worsor- Bay yesterday afternoon from Cook Strait, -where sho has been working on cables. The next trip of . the Arahura from Napier will bo on Wednesday for Gisborno, Tokomaru Bay, and Auckland. An American -. barque, presumably the C. D. Bryant, arrived off Bluff harbour on Monday afternoon, but owing to a gale of wind sho was tinable to make port and was sheltering in the vicinity of Ruapuke Island. She has a cargo of manure for Mcsßrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. for disoharge at Bluff and Wellington. The barque Antiopo, from Auckland, is to undergo overhaul and have a new main-top mast fitted before sailing from Auckland for America. The Ihumata,' which is diEoharging a cargo of Newcastle coal at Auckland, was oxpected to discharge on Friday. She will th/en go to Opuo, and Kaipara to load timber for Sydney. The Cluny Castle, fully laden, left Wellington yesterday morning for London, via Panama. The Australian Btcamer Inga was due at Wanganui from 'Newcastle yesterday. After, discharging her coal cargo she is to go to Kaipara and load timber for Sydney. ' The dearth of sailors and firemen is holding several ships in port at Wellington. The same can be said of the other centres, arid of the smaller ports to a lesser degree. The Whangape has been idle at Auckland for over a month for that reason. ' The Koromiko has been released from quarantine' at Wcstport, and is loa-ii'lg for Wellington. Bheis to sail to-night. Tlvreo men were yesterday wonted to mako a full crew on the Ngatoro. She is to sail to-day for Greymoutlj. and the Ngakuta is to got away to-morrow. It is probable that the Tarewera will leave Bluff to-day for Dunedin and Auckland to load for Sydney.
