WHAT THE CITY CODICIL SHOULD DO. , Overcrowding in Wellington, since tho danger of it and tho «tont to which it oxists have been revealed, is likely to engage the, attention of the authorities for a little itime. In tho House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. H. G. Ell asked the Minister of Public Health what stops the Department was taking to enforco the provisions of tho Act of 1912 designed to prevent overcrowding. That Act threw upon tho City Council the obligation to prepare a house list showing tho number of persons who might occupy any room, and the total number who might occupy a whole house. What steps was the Department taking to'see that this list was prepared? The ,Hon. G. W. Russell said that ho would refer the matter to the Mayor of Wellington in order that ho might inquire into tho matter. . Mr. Payne: Do you think he will loolc into it? Mr. Lulco: More than that. Mr. Russell said that the first draft of a Public. Health Bill had been prepared, and this Bill, whon it appenred, would put these matters beyond doubt.
