The New York "Sun's" Washington correspondent states that ho learns from diplomatic sources that Japan's principal propositions at tho Peace Conference will include:— First: Unquestioned concurrence with Britain in the subject of freedom of the seas and other matters afiecting die Anglo-Japanese Alliance. Second- Sympathy with the Ijniteil States and the Entente in protecting new nations. . ,
Third: Recognition that it is necessary for Japan to preserve order in Siberia. Fourth: Recognition rf a legitimate Japanese financial, commercial, and industrial sphere of influence in China. Fifth: The permanent occupation of Kiao Chan under terms satisfactory to Japan and China. ■ Sixth- A Japanese protectorate over the Marshall and Caroline Islands. A Paris message from the United Press correspondent states that it is reported that the prelAvinary peace negotiations will begin iiFjahuary. The signing, of the Peace Protocol is riot oxpected bciore the end of February. . , The New York "World's" Washington correspondent.reports that Senator Lodge, interviewed concerning tho peace terms, said that the pecuniary compensation which must bo made to Belgium and other countries destroyed by Germany must not only be in money, but in Germany's colonies, which must m taken from Germany because they would aid her to develop a Navy and commerce which might again threaten the peace or the world—Aus.-N.Z.
