THE CONDITIONS OF DISCHARGE

Spine of the men discharged from the training camps have complained about deductions being made from their piy for articles of kit lost or retained. A soldier returned from overseas is discharged with u lull kit, including uniforms, greatcoat, boots, and underclothing. Ho must return one of the uniforms and the greatcoat if he wishes to receive the full mufti allowance, "but any returned man can retain his full kit it he chooses to do so. A man who is discharged from the training camps without eon-ice overseas is not allowed (o retain his .kit without charge. ' Every article that has been issued to him remains the property of the State, and has to be accounted for when he is leaving camp. An article that he does not veturn to the camp stores must he paid for, but the prices charged arc low for new articles, and they approach tlie vanishing point in tho case of articles that liave. been in use for several months. Tho following prices, charged to recently discharged men for nrticles they elected to tako with them, show that the soldiers are not treated 'badly;—Tivo blankets, 12s.'; pair of lioote, 3s. Gd.; pair of breeches (old), lfld.; pair of puttees, Cd.; hold-all, Id. The Defence Department is not inn king any money out of the discharged men.
