SECOND-HAND CLOTHES
SALES RESTRICTED. The allegation was mode by Mr. .7. Vigor Brown, in Parliament on Monday thnt bedding from houses where pneumonia patients had died was being sold in WcllinKlon and Auckland auction i, rooms. The Minister of Public Health promised to go into the matter, and has now given instructions to all chief health officer;; as follows :— 1. To request ail cities, . boroughs, or town districts to establish public disinfecting and fumigating chambers, the number in each centre to be in accordance with the necessities of the case. 2. That all clothing or bedding used by patients shall be passed through Hie chamber, unless dealt with privately to the satisfaction of the sanitary/inspecS. That all sales by auction or public sales of used bedding or clothing be prohibited, unless certified as having passed through a public disinfecting chamber. i. Purchases of clothiiig and bedding by second-hand dealers to be prohibited uuieas certified as fumigated. 5. All bank notes received by. banks to ibe disinfected before reissue. * 0. All libraries to disinfect books on receipt. , Choap and effective lnelmvis of fumigation are to be advertised by the Du•partment at once in regard to clothing and bedding, which can be fumigated in private houses. Under these conditions special attention is to be paid to hotels and bonrdinghouses, and discretion will be given to the sanitary inspectors' department in the administration of tho instructions.
