THE CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS
Sir.—ln Thursday's Dominion - Mr. Lloyd George, in the House of Commons, is reported as saying: "Tlrs is no time for/words; our hearts are too full with gratitude.to which no tongue can give adequate expression." Mr.. Lloyd George's words exactly describe tens of thousands of hearts in New Zealand, and I suggest that while "hearts are too full of gratitude" is just the psychological moment for doing an act of clemency and mercy. Those much-punished men, the conscientious objectors, will.not be wanted to serve in the- Army now, and it would be a most graceful act on the part of' our military authorities to cancel their sentences, give them their discharges, and let them get back to some useful civilian occupation.—l am. etc., FRED. J, FIELD.
