. The Wangamii Harbour; Board undertook a big harbour improvement scheme, and even had n powerful dredge built nt Homo. Oivfng to the submaririte menace, however, the dredge'could not be sent out, and eventually the-dredge was leased lo the Admiralty. A frw days ago fhe chairman of the board cabled the Admiralty to ascertain if the dredge could be sent "out to New Zealand <»t once,, and he ■is now : awaiting a reply. In tho meantime the hoard is to consider a big scheme of further iinprovenienta : to tho harbour. The chairman now (proposes asking Parliamentary janction for raising an additional loan of ,£150,000. A motion to that effect w.is broujrht'before the Harbotlr Hoard last week, and was unanimously agreed to. Jl>. Teitch, SLP., mentioned, that ' the Minister of Finance, hnd said that .£2,000,000 would be waiting to-be expended under the Public Works Act i>: .order to find work for returned soldiers.
