"I have no doubt that the shipping position will improve rapidly," said the Prime Minister" last evening. Mr. Massey added that he had no official confirmation of the cabled statements on this point, but felt sure that the cessation of hostilities in Europe would bring about a speedy improvement in the shipping prospects.' The suspension of the transport of American troops to France and the release of many steamers employed during the war by 'the Admiralty would mean an important increase in tho supply of shipping for the transport of foodstuffs; and New Zealand, which had large accumulations of produce in store, would share the benefit.
