GERMANY'S LOST COLONIES
DATES OF CONQUEST. The conquest of the German colonies was completed early in December, 191,,when German East Africa was cleared of the enemy forces, but a 'remnant or these forces is still at large -in Portuguese- East Africa. Von Lettow, who vcomnniuded for Germany in Eas/t Africa, is a man of exceptional ability, and from the time when he was driven out of hie own colony contrived to keep a small forco afoot in the neighbouring Portuguese territory, and to supply it by raiditi" posts. Within the last few months his force has suffered .heavily in encounters with British pursuing columns, and it was reported in September that his "army" had been reduced to something fewer thaii 200 Germans and 200 blacks.
