Amongst those playing were Mrs. Blunt, Misses Stmfiiiey, Beckett, Alison, J onnings, Betty Cottorill, Dixon, R. Anderson 1 , Oossett, If. Piiscoe. Miss Strachqy uml Miss A. Jennings won tho competition.

A 'large number of the guests at the various hotels in Christcluiroh are still suffering from influenza, nnd unable to get homo again,
During the present influenza epidemic there \v:!l be iso gatherings or lectures in connection with the Soldiers and Sailors' Wives' Cln'o, which is lield in "Charley'e Aims" Club, Conrl'emiy Piaco. All members will be notified by advertisement when iho activities are resumed. The Women's National Reserve has also decided to hold no meetings.
A sale of children's. summer clothing will bo hold at the Red Cross Shop on Friday i ext. The goods are very moderately priced, and should prove a boon to busy, overworked mothers, who have .so littlo time for needlework in these sick and. strenuous days. Mrs. If. The. mesting of tho members of tho surgical department of the Mercer Street lied Cross Day, which was to bo held on Tuesday next, ha 3 bean postponed, owing io the rush of work in connection with tho epidemic. The department hopes that all promised goods will be forwarded when tho later (later for the meeting is finally fixed
The spread of tho influenza epidemic is such that medical men have visited homes in the poorer quarters of the city, where every inmate has been stricken down, unci have been foodless and helpless in their beds, awaiting relief.
The sports in connection with the Wellington Girls' College, which wore to have taken place this' iii'ternoon, have been indefinitely postponed.
