MURITAI TENNIS CLUB
I The official opening of the Muntai I Tennis Club took place on Saturday last, over 100 members and their friends, toi gather with representatives of other clubs, being present. In tho unavoidable absence of tho Hon. T. M. Wilford (club patron, and Mr. IT. W. Shortt (president), the courts were declared open by Mr. Avery (vice-president), the speaker outlining the difficulties tho club had experienced during the war. period, and referring to the present indications and expectations of an curly and lasting peace, and paying a tribute to the memory 'of two prominent members of the club (Messrs. Anthony Wilding and Hugh Girdlestone) who had given their lives in the struggle for the world's freedom. The Union Jack was then hoisted over tho pavilion by Mrs. Shortt, the National Anthem being sung by those present. The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to tennis, a number of enjoyable sots being played. Afternoon tea was provided by the committee.
