DECIMAL COINAGE

AN ASSOCIATION FORMED.' At a meeting held in the Accountants' Chambers Inst evening a Decimal Coinage Association was formed. Mr. James Macintosh presided at the meeting. There was a good attendance, and illness prevented other's from being present. v Several of'those who could not attend expressed thcm-:clvesi«s being in favour of the decimal system. Mr. Harold Beauchamp, chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, wrote lo the effect that he was amazed that such a system had not long ago been adopted in British countries. It unquestionably made for quickness and accuracy, and enabled calculations .to be made mentally which under the cumbrous British system of currency could bo worked out only on paper. Mr. G. Hogben, formerly Inspec-tor-General of Education, stated that he agreed almost entirely with the movement. Mr. W. B. Matheson, farmer, Eketahuna, said that he had spent three years in the United States, and had ever since regretted British slowness in accepting, a reform which makes -for efficiency. Letters approving the decimal system were received from Dr. \V. J. Anderson, Director of Education; Messrs. John Caughley, Assistant-Director of Education;" and J. C. Tennant, principal of the Training College. Mr. J. AV. Kinniburgh addressed the meeting. He. spoke in favour of decimal coinage, and gave illustrations of its simplicity as against the cumbrousness of our present system. He, mentioned that soldiers at the front had -found the decimal coinago quite easy to deal with.
