Mr. Martin Hall, director of tho Food Section of tho Ministry of Munitions, elated in August that more than a million workers now partook of meals in Bomefonn in the canteens established in munitions factories.' There were more than 1000 canteens under the inspectorship of tho Ministry of Munitions, and tho number was continually increasing. Canteens were not established during tho most tonso period of the war from philanthropic motives, but because of tho necessity of stimulating output by this obvious means. The records of lost lime in factories were clear evidence that neglect of the worker caused loss of lime. Good feeding and welfare workmeant good time-keeping. Central cooking had como lo slay, whether applied lo factory enn teens, tho canteens oi Government Departments, or to communal kitchens.
A Ncir York State representative lins' introduced a Bill in the Legislature to inuludo candy and chewin™-ffiim in the rations of the American soldier.
