VICTORY CELEBRATIONS
Sir,—lt is refreshing to note from the accounts of the celebrations held in various towns that Auckland, Melbourne, and Sydney were wise enough to close their hotels in order to protec\ those enthusiastic citizens who, lacking self-control, partake of the flowing bowl not wisely but tod, well. Tho writer, passing through in a tramcir, was grieved to notice that in Wellington not only men, but many young boys, ranging from the ages of 15 to 17, .were staggering through the streets iii a state of intoxication, Surely our Cabinet is not blind to tho dangers and evil effects of such indulgence, and it is to be hoped that when the confirmation of tho good news does come to hand, the occasion will Jie celebrated by all in a spirit of joyous thanksgiving, instead of in drunken oraies. The .Government must surely see their, responsibility in this matter, and should follow the wise leid of Auckland; Melbourne, and Sydneyi—l am, etc., VISITOR TO WELLINGTON.
