SWEEPING ADVANCE IN THE WEST BIG AMERICAN OFFENSIVE LAUNCHED (Roc. November 11, 10.50 p.m.) ' Paris, November 10. There are signs that the German retreat between the Sambre and the ifeuse is becoming ,\ rout. The British have passed Gemappes. Both the British and French armies are now threatening Mods. The French east of Mezieres encountered some rearguard resistance, but the cavalry sabred and dispersed the enemy.—Aiis.-N.Z. Cable Assn. DEMORALISATION SPREADS ' (Eec. November 12, OiO a.m.) London, November 10. The Germans fought fiercely on Saturday, neither their troops, artillery, or 'machine-guns (.bating their efforts in the slightest, but Sunday saw thp great retreat accelerated by a new general advance of ten miles, liberating many towns and'villages. Tournni was finally occupied, and Mons is about to fall. Everywhere are signs of increasing enemy demoralisation. Under the present relentless .pressure of the infaVry, cavalry, and air forces, the enemy is abandoning increasing quantities of material.

Mr. Campbell states: ".The enemy is still fighting bitterly and desperately on many parts of the front, but is unable to stay tho Franco-American advance. General Gouraid 'continues to make rapid headway. After crossing the sfen.se the advance was temporarily delayed -by a little battle in the western suburbs of Sedan, where the enemy rearguards 'put up a dogged fight, being driven back to the river, blowing up bridges in retreat." '-"The Times."
