A SOLDIER'S LIFE AT THE FRONT
. g 'At the Salvation Army Citadel, Vivian Street, Adjutant 3. S. Bladin, of the' Salvation Army, who went to the front witli the Nineteenth Reinforcement, jtiid served for-two years, delivered a lecture last, night on "Some Characteristics of a Soldier's Life." Brigadier W. Gist presided, and there was a large and appreciative audience- The, adju- - iaiit returned to' New Zealand about two months ago, and hail already delivered two very, interesting lectures, entitled, "Lessons of the War" and "From Fea-' tlierston Cam]) to the Firing-Line." '
Tlio adjutant said that it' he could got them to think of the gallant fellows at the front. lie would not have talked to them in vain. The boys at the front, he declared, merited their warmest .sympathy and the -best they could do for them. The soldier had a very, largo sense of humour, and unless a man could devlop this sense he luVd .a.sorry time of it. Adjutant Bladin de.'clared that if a soldier did not maintain his sense of humour and see somu : thing to laugh at in the most gruesome sights lie would soon becomp morbid, and useless to (he Army. He paid a great tribute to the wonderful work of the medical men at the front, who had performed many remarkable operations and feats in surgery.. The Adjutant also .gave some interesting stories •of the ■ pleasures of the hoys, their comradeship, and their religion. • Tho lecture was extremely interesting.
