HIDES AND TALLOW SALES

The fortnightly Bales of hides and tallow wero held yesterday by the various brokers. Messrs. Lalgety and Co. report that heavy hides wore a eliade better, whilst other hides and calfskins, aa compared with laet sale, were about the same rate. Tallow valuoß were a shade easier.

Meßsre. Hurray, Roberts and Co. offered a catalogue of 650 hides and calfskins. Prices for ox hides showed! a hardening tendency, cow hides being very firm. Calfskins hardly reached the extreme- prices of last sale, but were on a very high level. Tallow declined a, shade.

Messrs. Levin and Co. report that competition was good; and in aome cases at slightly increased pricce as compared with tho last sale. The market wan lirm for heavy and medium-weight hides at last salo'-s rulings, whilst good cow advanced a farthing. Calfskins were in keen demand at pricce obtained a fortnight a ?°j .._...

'Jlie New Zealand Farmere' Co-op. Bietribu'ting Co., Ltd., report that the market for hides, both ox and cow, was fairly lirm, and in most instances full lato rateu were obtained. Calfskins also were again in good request, although the extreme ratce of the two previous sales were not quite attained. The firm disposed of 150 calfskins at pricee 21d. to 22iW. per lb. The tallow market was rather quiet at a- slight depreciation in values.

Farmers' Co-operative Aesociation, Ltd., in which ie incorporated tho United Farmers' Co-operativu Association, report that owing to the peace rumours prices were uncertain, Heavy ox hides showed an advance on previoue solo of 3d. per lb. Medium ox hidoe were 3d. higher, and light jd. higher. Cow l-Jdoe were firm at tame rates as previous sale. Calfskins sold well, but wore slightly easier in price.
