THE WOOL CLIP
Sir—lt ia not surprising thnt Mr. J. S. Jessop so urgently advises the Primo Minister to close with. the offer of tho Home Government for tho coming wool clip, as tho freezing company with which he is connected, is now receiving the bumper price of 55 .per cent, on the average auction prices in London in 1914 for tho various descriptions of shpe wool, which will net them something approaching—if not exceeding—3s. per lb. Tho owners of greasy wool, however, only received the average prico of Is. 2jd. for last year's wool, i as their percentage of 55 per cent, is calculated, on the Dominion average pre-war price of 9.G5d. for tho 1913-1-1 clip. This, as it happened, was no less than -Id. per lb. short of the net price owners of greasy wool who habitually consign to London for sale received for tliaO same 1913-14 clip, and I know of cases where owners of greasy wool are now receiving a lesser price under the commandeer, with the 55 per cent, added, than they actually obtained in London for their 1913-14 clip. Others who habitually consign are receiving only from 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, over pre-war prices, instead of. 55 per cent. Although the owners of slipe wool are receiving 55 per cent, on average Homo prices for 1911, I think Mr. Massey would satisfy all the conflicting interests if he could induce the Home Government to vary the contract entered into by the Acting-Prime Ministor (viz., 55 per cent, on !).65c1.), and give owners of greasy wool the orkinal offer of 45 per cent, on nre-war London price in July," 1914, which I contend was the price tho Homo Government intended to give us. seeing that they have already varied the contract for slipe wool from Dominion to Home average prices, which is a very liberal concession. If Mr. Massey can rectify' this and obtain the 4n P"' - cent. I would not ask more. He would be conferring a benefit upon the Dominion, a$ it needs all it can obtain for its exports—l am, etc., WOOL-GROWEB-
