WHAT GOD HATH WROUGHT! A PLEA FOR' THANKFULNESS. rIS will be a SPECIAL GATHERING TO RETURN THANKS TO ALMIGHTY GOD for His manifold mercies to us as a nation during (his dreadful conflict of fifty months and more. We think the memory will never fade of the great deeds of valour anj selfsacrifice displayed by our Forces on sea and land. But a grateful nation will, we trust, not bo unmindful of tho great debt of thanks due to God, Who hns been our nation's Guide and Protector through all these terrible years, yet so full of mercies, as we havo though feebly endeavoured to show in these announcements week by week. May we never forget tho special deliverances of unusually critical days—the Marne and Yprps at the outset of w.ar, Verdun in the. midst of these years, the checking of the quite recent onsets in Franco and Flanders, which have beon .followed by tho Allies' onward march to victory. It would bo difficult to summarise tho abundant variety of Iho mercies vouchsafed to us. We will ever thank God for the United Stales, because they entered into the conflict as those who would fight the Battle of tho Lord, and because from the first they have humbly confessed His supremacy and their, dependence upon Him. '''Not unto us, O lord, not iinlo us, but unto Thy Manic give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy truth's sake!" "O mollify the Lord with me, nnd lot us exalt Hi 3 Name together." MR, J. BAXTER, of Melbourne, has kindly consented to speak on this occasion, giving a review of the war and reminding us of tho manifold tokens of God's favour to us as a people. Mr. Baxter is a gifted speaker, and.will (wo may expect) , deliver an inspiring address. As we feel the purpose is finished for which we believe God called for this public testimony concerning His faithfulness as a God Who hears ami answers pniyer, we trust that there will be a full attendance at this meeting. . .
