ARMISTICE CELEBRATIONS
PROGRAMME TO BE OBSERVED. The- following is the programme arranged bv the Procession. Sub-Commitlea of the Wellington Patriotic Society s Admistice Celebration Committee:(1) The news of Germany's surrender will be- conveyed to the citizens by the firing of guns at Mount Cook and Pipitea Point When the signal guns are fired, all citizens, employers, and employ- . - ees are requested to immediately cease work. Two hours later the civic authorities will make an official announcement from the main entrance _of the Town Hall, and the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister o? Defence will speak to the people. <<>) One and a half hours after the signal guns are fired the following bands will assemble :-At Courtenay Ptace rram - Terminus: Silver Mission Band, Scott sh Pipe Band. . Marshal, Mi Hcl well. Veitch and Allen's Corner: Salvation Army Band So. 1. Marshal, Mr. Brow-, "sf.' John's Church, Willis Street: Salvation Army Band No. 2. Marshal,. Captain M'Farlane. Boulcott Street Corner: Boys Drain and Trumpet Band. Marsclial, -Mi. Mainland. , . , _ , Grey .Street: Fifth Regiment Band. Marshal, Mr. Harper. _ Bunny Street: Waterside Worker Band and Salvation Army Band. Marshal, Mr. James M'lntosh. Bunny Street: Tramway Band. Mar v shal, Mr. Cook. ■ „ • v Bank of New Zealand Corner: New Zealand Natives' Band. Marshal, Mr. Fuller Town Hall: Patriotic Society Band. (An hour after signal, or as soon as possible.) .v, , ,r T Officers: Chief Marshal, Mr. Jos. Lewis; officer in charge bands'at Town Hall, Mr. Ward. The bands will march off under directions of their marshals so as to arrive at the Town Hall-about twenty-five minutes from the time of, assembly. They will _ enter the Town Hall by the yard entrance' in Mercer Street, pass through tho hall, and-emerge on the main entrance, where spaces will be allotted to them by Mr. Ward. . . Major Corrigan will parade the Senior Cadets sonic 1200 strong who, will form a hollow square round the main entrance and Mercer Street entrance. ■■': . Procedure at Town Hall. (a) National Anthem by massed bands (at full length and sung by citizens). His Worsliip the Mayor will announce the surrender of Germany. Address by the Right Honourable ciio Prime Minister (Mr. W. F. Massey)Address by the Hon. Minister of finance (Sir Joseph Ward). . \ddress bv the Hon. Minister of Defe«s (Sir James Allen). (b) "The Marseillaise," by massed bands (at full length). , . (e) "Rule Britannia" (one band only) and sung by citizens. ..-■'• (d) National Anthem (one verse by one band only) and sung by citizens. | (e) Doxolgy (at full length, one band only) and sung by citizens. . An official programme- containing to full text of the National Anthem, Rue Britannia," and the Doxology, will be printed'for Hie convenience of citizens. Arrangements for the Afternoon. After the ceremony at the town Hal is over, one baud will play "' 1° »• hilt other bands get their lunch. In tho evening the bands will assemble, in the P.O. Square, alter playing through the principal streets. The words of patriotic eongH and .portraits i| leading \llied statesmen, will be projected from 'a bioscope on to a scren hung from thePost Office, and citizens are requested to sing heartily. . It is suggested that citizens bring sandwiches with them, as it is extremely unlikely that meals in any form, will be procurable anywhere in tho city.
