MAPOURIKA DELAYED
The illness prevalent at the present time is affecting seafarers purticuJajrly badly, more so, :n fact, than other people, and in consequence (he supply 'sf seamen and firemen has been seriously depleted by the epidemic of' influenza. This dearth of nautical men was responsible'for the delay of the Union Company's steamer Mapourika, yesterday afternoon, and the ultimate Ciostponement of her sailing time to this "morning. On the Mapourika's arrival from Nelson and Piclon on Wednesday night several of her stokehold (Omplement left her, iii accordance with notice they had given. All elt'orts of officials of the Union Company and (lie Government Seamen's Inspector to find the requisite number of men in lime for (he ship to sail at noon—her usual time—were of no nvail, so her departure for I'icton and Nelson was postponed to 2 p.m. Even then, however, there was r.o change in the situation, and at 4.30 p.m.,' when there was still not a complete crew, the passengers were told that tho Mapourika would not leavo that night, and her sailing timo was moved forward to 10 o'clock this morning.
