St. Cuthbert's Sale of Work, The sale of work in aid of St. Cuthbert's Church work, Berhampore, was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom, Newtown ; and in spite of the squally weather . many people wero present. The Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott) was unable to bo present, and the Rev. Mr. Hervcy introduced Mrs. Sprott to the parishioners. In the course of a pleasant little spe?ch, Mrs. Sprott declared the Bazaar open. The Rev. W.' Fancourt also spoko a few words of cheer and encouragement, and proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Sprott. The stalls were very prettily decorated .with Japnnfco paper in all art shades, and a few cubist designs were very attractive. The stallholders wore:-Produce and Cakes? Mesdamea Tlervey, Stevenson, Beales, and the. Misses Pentrenth and Stowoll (2 ; Sunday School- Stall: Mrs. and iris* Eden and the Misses Preston and Cunningham; Plain Sewing: Jlesdames Edwards, Morgan, and Russell; Fancy Work: Mesdames Wing and Lane; Flowers: Mrs. and Miss Clark and Mrs'. Dur-ing-the'evening tho bnys and girls of the Sunday School gave a pleasant programme of 6ongs and marches and musical drill. Dances- were given by the Misses Mavis King and Liardet. Tho bazaar will be open all day to-day. Feildiiifi Notes. There was great excitement when tho news came through that Austria had ceased to light. - A demonstration was ' ■ held in the Square, the Mayor and other prominent citizens spoke, and tho shops, - offices, and schools all closed. i The sad news of the death of Private i Victor Hull, killed in action, has boon ' received. Since (ho constitution of the New Zealand Upturned Soldiers' Association has been amended so as to admit to free honorary membership all nurses of (he colonial and Imperial forces, the committee of the Wellington Hetnrned Soldiers' Association has had groat pleasure in confirming; the> membership of Mrs. A. D: Brown (nee Sister Campbell) and Mrs. Conway, Taylor-(neo Sister Kirk), both of Wellington, and wives of returned soldiers. The lady members of the association are issued with a badsre idontical with the silver badge of the N.Z.R.S.A., with a small Eed Cross embossed on the front and the regimental number , engraved on the back. The badgo has a very neat effect. Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs. Christie aro at present in Dunedin. Miss Mary Ward, who has been staying with Miss Kennedy, has returned to Christchurch. ' Mr. and Mrs. Harley Donald (Masterton) are visiting Christchurch. Tho Hon. h! F. Wigrnm and Mrs. Wig-ram liavo returned to Christchurch from Wellington. ' Miss E. A.. Clarke arrived in Wellington from Christchurch on. Wednesday, and will leave by the Manuka for Sydney, where she will tranship for India, via Queensland and tho various Eastern ports. Miss E. M. Isaacs,' first. assistant at tho Diocesan High School for Girls at Nga Tawa (Martbn) has been appointed to succeed Miss Montgomery as principal of St. Matthew's School for Girls at Masierton. i Excellent arrangements have been madofov the dance recital which is being given by Miss Nesta Carwell-Cooke's dancing classes to-morrow afternoon in the Town Hall, tho proceeds to be handed over to the Navy League Sailors' Comforts Fund Mrs. W. P. Massey will be among those present, also the Mayoress (.Airs. .7. P. Luke). Delicious homc-mado cakes are being contributed for afternoon tea, nnd Miss Bohnn is donating the te!(, also tho bread aud butter. Sweets and ices will be on sale, mid tickets may bo obtained-, at Begg's music warehouse.
