ECHO OF THE'SYRIAN WARFARE
. THE CAPTURE 'OF ALEPPO. (Rec. November 7, 8.10 p.m.) Cairo, November 6. Writing from Aleppo, Reuter's correspondent states' that the British troopa have been in that town since Saturday. "Their progress across the rlain thither has been more in the nature of a military parade than serious warfare, the demoralisation of the Turks enabling them to wrest the last Syrian vilayet, from their dominion at ft cost of exceedingly light casualties.' The Turks occupied a position a few miles south-west of Aleppo. After shelling and feint work covering three days, they were driven from an advanced post and began evacuating-the town, firing the stores and supply dumps. On the evening of October 25, Arab villagers, assisted by Aneysah tribesmen, attacked tho enemy on the flank and penetrated Aleppo after bitter fighting, killing 500 Turks. The British forces entered next day, nud were accorded an enthusiastic reception by all classes. The retreating Turks were overtaken on the Alexandretta Road, and ' : ie Jedlipore Lancers, with fine hipotuosity, charged right- through the enemy. The latter, over three thousand strong, at iirs't threw up their hands and surrendered, but on seeing the smallness of the attacking force reopened a heavy fire at close range, causing casualties. Tho Indians charged back to safety, and the enemy was .pursued northwards by cavalry and armoured cars—Router.
