MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A short sitting of the Magistrate's Court was hold yesterday morning, Mr. W. G. Hiddell, S.M., being on the Bench. For insobriety a first offender, who failed to appear,had his bail of 10s. forfeited; another was convicted and ordered to nay l"s. Gd; medical expenses. Joseph Johnson, against whom there were 'three previous convictions) arid who was also charged with committing a breach of his prohibition order, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. David Jl'Arthur Todd, who was charged with the theft at Taihape of a box and contents, a hatbox an.d contents, and a valise and contents, of the total value of about .£l4O, the property of Grace Kichardson, was, on the application of Chief Detective Boddam. further remanded for a weak. The case was partly heard a week ago, but as the complainant had failed to appear a warrant for her arrest was issued, and she had not been apprehended up to yesterday, hence the application for the further, remand. The accused protested that he nad been remanded five times on the charge and complained that ho was not getting justice. The Magistrate remarked to the Chief Detective that if the complainant could not l>e brought into Court ne.it week the case for the prosecution must rest on the evidence already given. Chief I Detective Boddam staled that there was ! another warrant out for the accused. I "In that case," remarked the Magistrate to the accused, "you will not be, prejudiced."
