TOWN-PLANNING
A DOMINION ASSOCIATION FORMED. • At a conference of delegates of representatives from the various districts of the Dominion held in the rooms ot Messrs. Go)d and Arcus yesterday important business was transacted in connection with tlie town-planning movement. The conference was presided over by Air. C. J. Parr, M.P., of Auckland, and there wero present the following delegates:—Mr. T. G. Price, Auckland; Messrs. T. Ballinger, A. Leigh' Hunt, G. Carweli Cooko, 11.. F. von Haast, H. \V. Tolan, Wellington; Hon. ,T. T.-I'a.il, M.L.C., and Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., Dunedin; Mr. S. Hurst Seager, Chrietchurch; Mr. W. M. Page, Invercargill; Mr. E. 1 , . Lee, M.P.. Oamaru. Messrs. J. L. Areus and H. E. ■ Prothersall acted as joint secretaries. T
Full consideration was given to the proposed Town-Planning Bill as circulated during last session, and the. recommendations of tho conference will bo forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs nt an early date. The Minister forwarded to the chairman the following telegram:—"l exceedingly regret that owing to public business in; Auckland I am unable to be present at the opening of the conference at Wellington. Please convey to tho members of the conference my hearty appreciation of the' effort they are making to stimulate publio opinion on this important matter, and also to bring to a concrete result their investigations. Regarding the Bill introduced last year, in view of the probable shortness of the session and the urgonoy of war legislation, it may not bo possible to carry any measure dealing with townplanning'this year, but whether this bo bo or not I feel sure the conference will be most useful in helping to form sound opinion'and assisting the Government regarding ' the measure." The various societies represented agreed to the forniatvoii of a Dominion Town-Planning Association under the title of the Federated Now Zealand Town-Planning Association, and the following members were appointed to tl"> executive —President, Mr. C. J. Purr, M.P., C.M.G.; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. Hurst-Seager (Christchurch), G. Carweli' Cooke (Wellington), and the Hon. J. T Paul (Dunedin); executive, Messrs. A. Leigh Hunt, W. M. Pago, Hope Gibbons, Thomas Ballinger, and H. F. von Haaft. Tho executive will bo called together at an early date to appoint other officers.
