BULGARIA BREAKS WITH GERMANY , HARD FIGHT FOR BETTER TERMS PROSPECTS OF NAYAL BATTLE ';..■■ •■ \ The capitulation of Austria, hourly expected, is now an accomplished feat. The "cease-fire" lias eounded along the Austro-Hungarian line. Germany's lost remaining prop-has gone. The new republics are now wrest- • ling with their political problems and striving to control the disorderly elements whioh threaten their well-being. . Hungary is to take a referendum on the' question of monarchy versus republic. Germany is now •the absorbing factor.in the attention of the world. By all accoants she does not appear to be ready to follow suit and very heavy fighting is re- ' ported from the various battlefronts in the West. One (report states that the Germans are.fighting as well as they did in 1914. Nevertheless, in Flanders, east of Valenoiennea, on the. Franco-American fronts, the pressure of the Allies is irresistible, and the enemy is giving ground Tapidly. ""• His retirement on the American front is said to be assuming the aspect' of a rout.' There is some talk of bolstering up the Kaiser as a rallying point for German unity, for there is an apparent dread of the incidental horrois attendant on such a revolution as'seems to be the almost, certain ■'. fate of the' Fatherland. The concentration of U-boats at their home ■bases, and their studious avoidance of British a.nd Allied ships, is interyTeted'by some as a preparation of a naval - demonstration. Germany's last try, it is thought, will include a'mighty effort on land and sea. It will be the death flurry, for. defeat is inevitable.
