TROUBLE THREATENED AT INVERCARGILL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, November 3. Trouble was threatened on Saturday iWth the tramway employees, who contend that the Borough Council must pay overtime for hours worked beyond eight hours in any one day. The men advertised that the car service would stop at 10 p.m., by which time their eight hours on duty would have been completed. The Government Labour inspector pointed out to the men that they were acting ill-advisedly. They had already referred the matter .to the Labour Department, and their proper course was to obtain a ruling from the Arbitration Court. If they carried out their intention their action might be regarded as a strike, making the men liable to a heavy penalty. The men decided to allow the dispute to be settled by constitutional means, and the.tram service was continued as' usual.
