ASSISTANT MASTERS WILL SUPPORT ■ "EXTREME ACTION." - On Saturday evening a full meeting of the Wellington Public Schools Assistant Masters' Association was held at the 'le Aro School to discuss the burning question of salaries. . The following motion was enthusiastically carried by a unanimous vote:— , ~. „ . i' "That tho Wellington Public Schools Assistant Masters' Association'is prepared to support any extreme action taken by tho Isexi Zealand executive to obtain a just and living wage," Various speakers expressed contempt for the "bonus system,", i.e., that of throwing o "sop" not only to the teachers but also tho Public Servants generally, just, it was stated, as one would throw a bono to a'Starving dog to keep it quiet. The veriest child in economics could see that with tho fall in tho purchasing power of tho sovereign to 13s. the value of a teachers' salary had fallen 83 per cent., while the "sop" of .£ls represented little more than .5 per cent. Facts and figures were placed before the meeting,to show that in order to put teachers on the financial position occupied before the war an all-round increase of 50 per cent, would bo necessary. The meeting was adjourned till Monday, when the measures proposed by tho New Zealand executive will be presented.'
