N.Z. NATIVES' ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. The' annual meeting of tho New Zealand; Natives' Association was held on Wednesday. Mr.. George Gapes presided, and there was a meagre attendance of members.

Tho annual report stated that 70 members had joined the Colours, and tho thinning of tho ranks 'thereby made it a'little harder to carry on successfully. Reference was made to the services of tho band, which had given considerable help an raising funds for patriotic purposes. The Ladies' Guild, under tho* leadership of Mrs. M'Vicar, had done excellent work during tho year in visiting sick soldiers in the hospitals. During- the year 'a successful bazaar, was held, and an Easter egg carnival, the proceeds of which was intended to be devoted to a building fund was diverted for tho benefit of the sufferers by tho Main Trunk line fire, and resulted in ,£594: 15s. Id. being handed to the Mayor. Thanks wero accorded to the Hon. W. H. Herries and Mr. Norwood for donations of ,£IOO each to tho funds of the association, and to others for smaller donations. The medijal benefit branch and the purchase branch were reported to bo doing good work, i-nd meeting with great success. Tho statement of accounts showed that tho receipts for the year ended July 31 last totalled .£2310 75., of which tho bazaar and carnival produced .-21993 Us. 10d., and subscriptions and donations ,£230 Is. The expenditure amounted to ,£2lOl 3s. 6d., tho carnival and bazaar accounting for .£l2Ol lis. Bd.,and tho Raotilii firo relief donation for <£59i 15s. Id. The balance for tho year was iS2OO 3s. 6d., which included .£27 9s. Bd. broughi/j into (lie accounts. The assets are valued at .£307 2s, Gd. Tho report and balancesheet were adopted. Tho following wore elected members of the executive- committee:—Mrs. A. M'Vicar, Madam Mueller, and Messrs. S. Faulknor, G. H. Williams, B. Strangman, H. Cooke, J. C. Cusack, C. M'Tntyro, Alfred Jackson, S. Boock, H-. J. Purdy,. and E. P. Jones. Mr. George Gapes, who was chairman of tlio committee during the past year, did not seek election
