POST AND TELEGRAPH CONFERENCE

The conference of the Post and Telograph Association has been for tho last two days considering the scales of salaries prevailing in the Department. Beforo going into tho details tho delegates passed the following motion as the basis of their request for improvements:—"That this conference is of the opinion tlmt all men in receipt of less than M per week aro not receiving a living wage, and it considers the time has arrived when a basic living wage should be established by Parliament, which shall be the minimum payment to all malo workers who have completed their training. Thereafter increases should be given in accordance with the worker's standard of skill or workmanship, which will adequately mark his higher value, and that there should be no limit to -.hu wage any worker may receive provided he gives an adequate return in skill and labour."
